National Organizations and Resources

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI): Offers support services for people living with mental illness and their families, including in-person and online support groups, education programs, and referrals.

National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFCC): Provides information on over 1,400 clinics that offer free or low-cost health care services, including therapy options.

National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA): Offers resources for managing and overcoming eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder.

FindTreatment.gov: A confidential resource from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for finding treatment programs for substance abuse disorders and other mental health concerns.

211 by United Way: A national helpline that connects individuals with various social services, including mental health resources. Dial 211 for local resources, support groups, and counseling services.

7 Cups: An online platform providing free emotional support and counseling through trained volunteers. Offers anonymous chat rooms and one-on-one chat sessions.

Resources for Systemically Excluded Groups

Lotus Therapy Fund (Asian Mental Health Collective): Financial support for eligible Asian or Asian American applicants for therapy sessions.

Loveland Therapy Fund (The Loveland Foundation): Financial assistance to Black women and girls for therapy.

BIPOC Therapy Fund (Inclusive Therapists): Community-funded therapy services for eligible people of color, connecting them with licensed providers from the same community.

National Queer & Trans Therapists of Color Network’s Mental Health Fund: Helps queer and trans people of color pay for therapy sessions.

State-Specific Resources

State Crisis Lines: Local crisis support services and crisis lines are provided by state public mental health systems. These services include caring attention, support, and referrals to appropriate mental health care providers. For a full list of state-specific crisis lines click here.

State Warmlines: For non-emergency support, many states offer warmlines staffed by individuals with lived mental health experience. These are free and confidential services. A full list of state-specific warmlines can also be found at OpenCounseling.
